I have 2 13 and 1/2 week old Silkies, one 14 week old Buff Orpington, and one 14 week old Dominique chicken. I was wondering at what age to change them to layers feed. They are on the food before that (not sure what it's called) and heard that after 4-6 weeks of being on it you should change them, and then 4-6 weeks later they should start to lay. We started them on it late, so I was also wondering how this could effect when we change their food. Thanks!

Eighteen to twenty weeks or when they start to lay you switch to layer. It will have no effect on when you change with using starter or grower till they lay. Some never switch to a layer and just give them a calcium supplement for the laying hens. If you want to finish the bag of the feed they are on when they start to lay you can, just supplement the calcium.
