This morning I was woken by my now 3yo ex batt making an awful sound.
I rushed out and found her laying on the ground with one wing and one leg ( the same side ) outstretched. She was out in the rain and the temp was about 3°c

She had been limping the day before, but still running around. No signs of bumble foot, no redness, or scale mite on her leg.

I brought her inside, put her down on a towel and she stood up, weight on both legs, but fell when she tried to take a step.

I put her in the bathtub with some warm towels and food and water.

When I got up at 9 she was happily pecking away at her food, and by 11 I removed her from the tub and she was walking fine. She even laid an egg!

Does anyone have any ideas of what happened and how I can help prevent it happening again. Sherah is a much loved chicken and companion to our other bird Ripley

Is she a White Leghorn?

3year old ex-batts will usually lay enormous eggs that often put pressure on the left leg nerves while passing through the oviduct. This can lead to temporary impairment of the leg similar to paralysis.
Thank you for replying

She is a red commercial hybrid so I couldn't rule out any leg horn, and it is her left leg.
Also her eggs are large ( see pic )

Can I help her with this do you know?

Red commercial hybrids are usually a White Leghorn cross. Sadly, there is not much one can do as they are genetically programmed to lay too many oversized eggs in as short a period as possible for maximum profit.

To help her pressurized nerves recover, you could supplement with a vitamin b complex. Make sure it contains riboflavin.

Thank you again
I ordered some vitamins last night and they are due any day now.
Unfortunately there are no shops I can buy chicken specific vits from to give her sooner
