Hello,

This morning my chicken (5mos) was laying alone in coop eyes closed gasping for air/slow deep breaths, she wont drink or eat, no sneezing or runny nose or any other sypmtoms? all other 14 birds seem fine ... i thought i noticed her do this the other day but she was acting normal since... maybe gapeworm? I cant see anything in her throught though and her crop feels normal. I live in a small town and all we have is Piperazine Dihydrochloride??

I've separated her but its hard to watch her struggle... any advice??

Gasping can be a sign of a respiratory disease. Is she panting or struggling to get air? Is it hot? Gapeworm is very rare, and most chickens cannot eat or drink, or so anything but extend their necks to get enough air. If you want to treat for gapes and other worms, you can use SafeGuard liquid goat wormer or horse paste 1/4 ml per pound given orally for 5 straight days. If she weighs 5 pounds, that would be 1.25 ml of SafeGuard. Is her crop emptying overnight?

We dont have that safeguard here.. I have liquid horse ivermectin? is the only other thing here - I'll call the closest feed supply to see if they do ... the vet in town doesnt have any dewormer... I'm waiting for a reply from another vet in next city.

No panting, its cool temps here (14 C)... shes quarantined alone now and wont move/ get up/eat/ or drink but she has access to both food and water
