I have a pet chicken, and up until 2 or 3 days ago she was doing ok. After I gave her a bath though, she started panting nonstop. She’s indoor, so she’s not too hot, and I don’t think she would have caught anything, she still has an appetite and has access to clean water. She was sneezes sometimes too, but doesn’t have the runny nose, swelling or loss of appetite that a respiratory infection is supposed to entail. I think it might be stress (her living area is too small right now, I’m in the process of rehoming her to a local farm) but she doesn’t really stop and it’s starting to really spook me. She’s about nine weeks old, her feathers are just starting to finish coming in.

Do you have a video of her?
Was there a reason for the bath?
Any chance that she aspirated water when you bathed her?
What is she eating?
Having too small a space can cause stress-how big is the space that she is in?
What does her poop look like?

I'm sorry that she is struggling. Check to see if her crop is emptying overnight.
Think about when you gave her a bath, did she get water in her mouth/nose, was she held too tight. Being inside-are you using any room deodorizers/essential oils/cleaning products around her? What type of bedding is she on, anything moldy? If you are feeding anything besides chick starter, does she have chick grit available free choice.

I talked to some people at TSC, they told me to put her on some electrolytes since antibiotics would be bad for a chick her age, and they seem to be helping.
Food: DuMor 20% Chick Starter
Aspiration: I don't believe so, she kept her head out of the water and the faucet was running lukewarm, no real steam
Space: When she's inside, I have a 6'x4' space in my room for her to be in, I've been taking her outside more often though which helps too
Deodorizers: I use Febreze spray in my room, but I make sure to keep it from going into her space
Bedding: She's on cedar shavings, I change them out every other day and scoop the poop daily
She really is doing a lot better now, it's still not ideal and I'm still trying to find a new home for her but I thought I'd follow up since I figure if I asked about a possibly sick chicken then never followed up, people might worry. Thanks for your help!

Take out the cedar shavings - they are too aromatic for chickens - this is likely the cause of respiratory irritation. Use pine shavings or place her on puppy pads.

Frebreeze - I would be hesitant to use that since she is having difficulty. Can eliminate that until you re-home her?

Electrolytes or poultry vitamins would be good, so I'm glad you got some for her. I'm sure she is enjoying getting outdoors-chickens love that.
I hope with making the above changes, she gets all better soon. Thank you for taking the time to give us an update.
