Hi!
I’m new to owning chickens, and this is my first batch. I have four 2-month-old chickens, 2 Blue Sapphire Plymouth Rocks and 2 color pack layers. I’ve watched a few videos on how to determine their genders, and I’ve attempted to do so, but I’m still not sure. If anyone’s got a guess, I’d be so thankful!
Here are some pictures and descriptions of them:
Painter, a Color Pack Layer. She can be a bit aggressive to her roommates, and sometimes picks fights. She seems to be at the top of the pecking order. Her face is sort of red, but her waddles and comb are a bit small. Her tail is decently arched. Painter seems like a rooster to me.
Tubby, a Blue Sapphire Plymouth Rock. She’s very docile and kind, definitely the smallest, comb and wattles are small and not very rosy, her tail feathers are full and flat. She seems to be the lowest on the pecking order, and never picks fights. I’m not too concerned about her being a roo.
Ophie, also a Sapphire Plymouth. She seems to be a close second in the pecking order to Painter, who she seems to fight with sometimes. As you can see, her waddles and comb are a bit big and quite red, though sometimes they look pale. Her tail is arched, but the feathers seem round and defined and the ends. She’s sweet most of the time, but seems to assert her dominance when she wants to. Ophie might be a roo.
Last, we have May. She’s a color pack layer. She seems a bit more like a hen, because her tail feathers are defined, but they are arched, as you can see. May doesn’t fight much, and tends to stay away from the action. Her waddles and comb and rosy, but about the same size as Tubby’s— small. She seems to be the second to last in the pecking order, or maybe the last. I’m not too worried about her, but her tail and face color are a tad concerning.
I can get better pictures if these are bad.
If anyone has any good guesses as to what gender they might be, please let me know! Thanks!
