So I have question, which genes in hen control egg laying .. is it trait that only goes from mother hen or gen for egg laying also transmit with roosters, I ask this because I have plenty of cockorels this year I I want keep best line to improve my flock. I know females are ZW and males ZZ,I know gene Z in females comes from roo and gene W from hen, so does someone know what traits is based on gene W is it female reproductive development and egg laying any experts here?

Many traits like egg color and egg laying are polygenic and some of those genes are located on the sex linked chromosome Z, there was a study of a reciprocal cross of White Leghorn and Red Jungle Fowls, the research found that some egg laying traits and broodiness are sex linked.
