Hi I just got my first flock of chickens this spring. I just noticed one of my hen’s breast looks very lopsided, almost like there is a large growth there. On closer inspection, it seems as though her neck is not straight/crooked/very curved. I’ve done a bit of research and I do not believe this is a crop issue, as the issue is her neck. Her chest seems fine. It also does not appear to be as drastic as wry neck. Any advice would be very helpful.

It could be a bit of a deformity or very mild wry neck, I suppose. It is hard to know without seeing it. Can you post a picture? I think I would give some vitamins, just in case.

Here are some pictures of the hen. It looks like a big lump on her left side but it’s actually just her neck covered with feathers. Her neck bends over to the left then back to her head. In the last picture you can see a normal hen next to her.

Hello,
I have i have a 2 month old flock that was born here on the farm. I noticed one of my hens this morning with this exact same issue. Her neck bone seems to turn a sharp corner left then back right. It looks exactly like your pictures. Im wondering, have you noticed any changes or more issues since your first post? Is she still ok? And are you doing anything that may be helping her?

Hi there! I’m sorry to hear about your chicken... I hope she’s doing OK. Our chicken stopped eating and drinking on her own and we had to start hand feeding her and giving her water. We did buy B12 and added it to her water, as a lot of resources online noted that added vitamins would be beneficial. Other sources online said it could possibly be a physical injury (e.g., flying into something) or a case of slight wry neck. We never figured out what was going on, and unfortunately we had to put her down. Towards the end she seemed very depressed and in some pain. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help, and hope you find a way to help your hen!
