chicken has dark runny poop

One of my Red Stars was sitting listless this morning. She came out with the rest of her sisters but sat on a corner of the fence. When I went to inspect her, I realized she was pooping and it was runny. I also saw that she had egg sac residue on her vent...it was runny too. Ick! Help! I will keep an eye on her throughout the day but have you ever heard of this? Is she just waking up and all or should I worry?

This makes me think of a few things. Dark poo, was it blood? If so that is a sign of cocci. If not, egg sac? You mean prolapse maybe? Is she egg bound? Did an egg get broken inside?

If it is cocci, treat with amprol or sulmet.

If it is prolapse, egg bound, broken egg, you have to put her back in/ get the egg out. Searches on these topics will bring you more details. Good luck.

No, no blood just runny poop. It doesn't look any different than normal...just well, runny.

There was egg sac stuff on her still. I removed the excess egg sac thingy hanging out gently and she was fine after that. She pooped A -BIG- hard poop after I removed the egg thingy and then ran off.

I'm still keeping an eye on her though.
