Just went to shut my birds away. I have only one chicken and lots of ducks. The chicken, Ben, us always very perky and active, but happily goes away in the evening. She was acting fine earlier today and we had an egg from her this morning.
Anyway I noticed she was hiding under a hedge while I put the ducks away. This is not normal at all, she usually follows me round. Then I see she has her wings drooped a bit each side and her tail and back raised. She eventually slowly walked to her bed and went in but I noticed what seemed to be clearish fluid leaking from her back end as she made her way in. I haven't checked her over yet as it's dark now. Could she have an injury? I assume that as she has laid an egg each morning for last week it's not something to do with egg laying? Not had this before, sorry. No photos as I didn't realise until I put her away and like I say it's dark now. Hoping she doesn't die in the night 😟. She is about 2 years old.

I would retrieve her off the roost if possible, and separate her to examine her all over. She can spend a night in a dog crate so that you can check her again in the morning. Take picture of her bent area when you get a chance tomorrow. If she has continuous liquid from her vent, she might have a yeast infection or vent gleet. That can go along with sour crop sometimes, so feel of her crop to see if it is empty, full, firm or puffy. Does she have a sour odor from her beak or is she spitting up liquid?

I would put on a disposable glove and insert a finger inside her vent to check for any egg matter—yolk, albumen, shell, or membrane. I would also try to give her some electrolytes and water orally. Has she laid eggs recently?

That sounds like the vent gleet my girl has. A line of continuous trickle poop running down. :( It sounds like the medicine we all need is in very short supply in the U.S. right now (Nystatin).
