Hi! My 2-3 year old black australorp (Mildred!) has had greenish looking almost-diarrhea for a couple of days. She and her sister (Peaches) have the same diet -- Salad of fruit & veg in the morning (mostly veg) and regular feed for layers. They get a little oatmeal in the afternoon, and also hemp hearts. This is the same diet they've had for the 4 months since I got them, so it doesn't seem to be a new food. Mildred is acting normal -- Still laying, walking around the yard, generally being herself. Do chickens get colds? What could this be? And how long do I wait before going to a vet? Thanks for your help, in advance! ❤️

Picture of the poop  helps.

I stopped "treating" my girls with fruits & veggies, not always but have noticed their poop gets softer and sometimes get dirty butt feathers. It also does get green with green veggies & mowed grass clippings.

Another reason I stopped all treats is they seemed under weight. Learned that too much treats off sets the nutritional contents of their feed. They have since gained and getting to what they should be, no internal parasites. They are confined so I do give them some BOSS & mealworms at close up to scratch.

:eek:Just learned something I did not know per Eggcessive - Make sure that she is eating as well, since green is sometimes due to not eating enough.
Always learning from other members :hugs
me too! always trying to learn.. and the learning curve is sometime a bit steep.. I think it's really good for people to weigh in when the agree and disagree because although that can leave one unsettled., it allows us to remain open, and hopefully the really seasoned here can help to settle the score. I think those special badges that signify the quality of their knowledge is eggcellent! It helps the reader to qualify the advice.. what someone might believe at 2 to 3 years of keeping may differ from what they would profess at 10 or 20 years.. Love this group.
