Hey guys,
my chicken has become broody and so I'm considering giving her the duck eggs I want hatched, as my muscovy is not broody yet and I'm worried may be a little big for these eggs. I think I'm supposed to lightly mist the eggs so they receive a bit of moisture? But I am not sure as I've never had chickens hatch any duck eggs...if so does anyone know how often etc?
Any information/opinions would be appreciated thanks :)

I tried it; twice. Neither occasion did I mist the eggs

First time, the chicken abandoned the egg in the final day or two; second time, I made a deliberate choice to remove the eggs to finish off in an incubator for the final days.

I'm sure others with a fully experience will be along soon to offer better advice

I didn't mist. I just put the eggs under her and let her do her thing.

This is the first 2 ducklings that my chicken hatch. She went on to hatch 2 more.

This is her with the 4.

Thanks, makes me feel heaps better - I'll let her do her thing and keep an eye on the eggs and hopefully will end up with some cute ducklings!

Last year my BO hen went broody and set on some infertile eggs. I tried, but couldn't break her broodiness, so I gave her a half dozen duck eggs. She faithfully set those eggs until it became clear that the last 2 would not hatch.
She successfully raised the 4 ducklings she hatched. She didn't even seem to mind when they wanted to go swimming. They hopped into their little pool ( a shallow rubbermaid container) and she scratched around nearby until they were done and got out.

It was so funny/sad to watch her trying to teach her "special" children how to scratch for bugs and seeds. They would come running to eat what she found for them, then just ignore her and went around the yard being ducks. She followed them around, keeping the other hens away. It didn't seem to matter to her that they were 'chicken challenged'. She just kept trying to teach them chicken ways until they fledged out, then she decided they were old enough to be stupid on their own. They grew up to be pretty sensible ducks, but they never did learn to scratch for bugs.

Edited to add: I never misted the eggs, either. I juts let Buffy do her hatching thing. I figured they'd either hatch or they wouldn't.
