I have a LOT of pets. Compared to my other pets the chickens might actually be the only useful ones.
But I've never gotten so much negative response to any pet.
I had no idea there were so many chicken hating people out there.
There's people that are just suffering from some kind of chicken phobia. They just give them the heebeegeebees (did I spell that right?)
And then there are those people that react to 'hey I got some cute new chicks' with 'Oh I hate chickens! I used to watch my grandpa cut their heads off - haha'
What's there to hate about a little bird that even lays eggs as a bonus?!

I've met people who were cool about chickens but never an actual chicken-hater. I agree; there's no logic at all.I have to ask, 4 and a HALF cats?

My best friend of 26 years always acted a little weirded out by my chicken obsession. Well, recently she confessed to me that when she was about 4ish she and her brother and sisters got a baby chick at Easter. Her alcoholic father let it starve to death then blamed the children telling them they killed the baby.

You never know WHY someone feels the way they do. I just know I love mine and wouldn't trade them for the world.

I have 4 cats that are mine and a big tomcat that moved into our garage ... oh maybe 2 years ago.
He eats our cat food, he has his own cat bed by now, he doesn't leave... I am counting him as half because I am actually not responsible that he's here so my husband is not allowed to count him as yet another one of my pets!

My father in law was NOT enthused about chickens. Too many bad memories on the farm...they had lice, etc.

He's passed on now.

We have 18, and I get 12 more next week!

Most of the chicken haters I know seem to have only been exposed to the type of chicken keepers who didn't exactly keep their chickens in the best of conditions. Their mantra is, "But they smell so BAD!" My SO was one of them, actually.

Then those people come to my house, and this is the typical question: "Why don't they smell?"

After they adjust to the idea that chickens are actually less smelly than their beloved cats and dogs, they usually ask if they can hold one.
