Chicken having breathing problems

I have a chick making a almost naisly sound when breathing and chirping, but sometimes I can't hear it at all. Eating and drinking just fine. Any suggestions? It's a Cornish rock by the way..

Well, there's a lot of things it could be and it's impossible to diagnose certain respiratory issues long distance and without testing because they have the same symptoms but different causes.

Are the sinuses or the area around the eye, or between the eyes and nostrils, swollen at all or flaring with breathing?

Any bubbling around the mouth or nose at any time, even right after it's been drinking?

Does it breathe with its mouth open habitually?

Not sure what you mean by nasal sound, that could be a lot of things from clicking sounds due to obstruction to the sound of forced breathing, actual vocalizations, or the sounds of mucous bubbling in the airways. Can you describe it a bit better?

Best wishes.

No discharge or eye issues, just makes a noise like his throat sounds mucusy, and he sneezes a bit, then shakes his head, it's hard to describe, this is our first time with chicks

Definitely sounds like respiratory disease, but might just be a non-viral infection from inhaling a bit of food or fluids. Adding a few cloves of minced raw garlic to their food can knock a lot of bacterial and viral infections out quite effectively.

This link goes to a diagnostic chart to help you ID the disease by symptoms... You may want to bookmark this one:

While your chick isn't gasping, this link covers a few respiratory diseases and you may be able to ID what's going on:

This is a handy site too with heaps of info:

Ultimately nobody can give you a foolproof diagnosis online, you'd need to take the animal to a vet for that and even then it's not guaranteed, but experienced people can point you to the right medications to use for various diseases if you can identify it or get as close as possible to a positive ID, anyway.

Best wishes.
