This is my chicken lily and she a year old. 2 days ago she was prolapsed and I was able to fix it. But now she is having a hard time pooping and when she does she does very little. She is forcing herself a lot while trying to poop and I’m really starting to worry. Please give me some advice on what I can do to help her.

Here’s a picture of her vent too. I have put some glucose water on it and put some hermroid ointment on it as well.

Could she be trying to lay an egg? She may need some extra calcium to get it out.
I don’t think that’s the case because when she squats like that she poops a little which makes me think she’s trying to poop and not lay an egg. I also felt her vent and it doesn’t seem to have an egg.

I would give her a human calcium tablet with d, or a Tums into her beak to swallow. Do you have a disposable glove and some lubricant or vaseline? I would insert a finger inside to feel for stuck poop or any dried urates around the vent opening. Is she eating and drinking well? You can give her 1-2 tsp of coconut oil slightly chilled and cut into small pieces. Or give olive oil or mineral oil in a bit of scrambled or boiled egg. Those may act as a lubricant if she is constipated.

no I don’t think I hav e any lubricant I might have to run down the store to get some. But she is drinking and eating well from what I’ve seen. I’ll make sure to give her some coconut oil .

I would get human calcium with vitamin D or Tums. For lubricant can use vegetable oil or olive oil, or any ointment such as vaseline, or antibiotic ointment, hand cream, etc. Some chickens may get vent gleet/cloacistis and have caked urates and poop around the vent opening. Some chickens may have a damaged vent from a prolapse, or just be constipated.

Hey so I put my finger inside of her and I felt some put it solid poop but after I took it out she tried to poop and her vent poked out of her in like a ball and had the poop so I tried to pick it out but it was difficult what can I do do I try to pick it out? Or what can I do to help her do it herself?
