can or will a chicken hawk carry off a full grown duck?

Do you mean a red-tailed? Yes, depending on the size of the duck. An eagle, definitely. A coopers-hawk, no, but they will kill and eat a small duck right on the spot.

were not sure what kind they are but their small brown hawks,we have put up owl decoys hoping to keep them away.lol

It's always good to take precautions with any predator. By the way, real owls love to eat ducks.
