Hey guys. So I'm going to be traveling to key west here next Tuesday and I have a chicken predicament. I have someone to watch our chickens, but i'm trying to make it as easy as possible for her while i'm gone. I have a little roo named Rod, and he is a white crested polish. He is the only bantam chicken of my flock and the other chickens love to peck all the feathers off his poor little head. He usually free roams with the flock on our acre, but when i'm gone, they are in the coop and Rod is in a big carrier so that they can't hurt his head. When i'm gone I need him to be with them in the coop because he can't stay in the carrier for three days by himself. I need to figure out something to wrap his head with or something to put on his head so that the chickens don't have access to his head. Help!! Thank you! ( I have already tried peck no more cream and pine tar but neither were working.) Pictures of what i'm dealing with down below.

Poor little guy! I can’t help but maybe @Eggcessive or @Wyorp Rock could?

I raised two polish hens from chicks in a mixed flock. One or the other would be feather picked on her head feathers at times. If I used BluKote spray on the white feathers and skin every 2 days once the pecking started, they would not continue. Then they would usually heal within a few weeks. It might be a few months, and then one would get pecked again. I always had good luck with the BluKote, but it fades in a few days. If your pet sitter can reapply the spray every 2-3 days it may help. Some people do not have good luck with it, but I did.

If possible just keep him separate until you get back and I would recommend either selling him or getting him his own coop with a few more polish. This is exactly why polish shouldn't be mixed with bigger more aggressive breeds.
