I know the answer is here on BYC somewhere. I can't find it.

Which predator takes only the head of a chicken?

We have had a problem with a raccoon. No more total free range. We've enclosed and electrified about 800 square feet for the birds and they have started to go into their coop at night which they weren't doing before the murders started.

Where are they when they're being taken? Roosting in trees? In the coop? Free ranging? What time of day is it happening? Answering those questions could help narrow down your predators.

If a raccoon can't get into the pen of a chicken it will often rip the chickens had off from outside of the pen
