Chicken herding

Feed feed feed.

And if you can get a few moving in the right direction, they all go for some reason. My folks always wonder why I'm happier if 8 chickens need to be caught rather than 1 chicken -- 8 are easy, they all move as one big group. 1 is a tiny, caffeinated, high-jumping, screaming, insane nightmare.

I just throw them some pieces of bread and they go right in for me. At dusk I just say "Go to bed" and they go walking to the coop.

I usually let my chicks out to range for a few hours every afternoon. Supervised. Well hunting season is now open so I've been hunting & not letting them out. Feeling guilty I let them out for a few hours. Shook the treat box's that they know so well & bingo. They all went in no problem. I don't no why but for some reason my chicks love their house.

Mine are trained to come when they see me or when they hear me call, "Here, chick, chick, chick." They come flying, bobbling, running anyway they can, trying to be first to whatever tidbit I have for them. So, when I particularly need for them to go back to their chicken yard or pen, I grab a treat, head out the door, calling for them, and it's no time at all before they are all jumping at my feet in their yard for whatever I"ve brought them. They do remember, especially food and food bearers. ~G

I herd mine with sunflower seeds. I throw them down where I want them to go and they charge. Sometimes I use a long stick when I'm in a hurry to round them up, but usually that isn't necessary. When one piglet rushes over, the rest have to see what there is to eat!

Herd ours with a 10' length of white PVC pipe. Easy for them to see at all times. They know when it comes out, we mean business. That and they hear the phrase, "Chicken in." Goes pretty smooth after a little training.

Its pretty simple really Red Scoop full of boss and cracked corn and they will herd you to the run which is the only place they get snacks.

I used to have a cage diagonally against the side of the barn.... and I would throw little bits of bread in there and trap them a few at a time.... But, when I got too many to do that in a few hours, I got smart!
