Hi there!

My husband and I live on the lower South Hill in Spokane, WA. We just got the go ahead from our landlord to get some chickens, and we're super excited! The zoning official we talked to let us know that we can have 3 chickens(she said they consider chickens to be pets, and we're allowed 4, so 3 chickens in addition to our corgi, Ponyo. Apparently the bunny doesn't count). I'm leaning toward blue-laced red wyandottes and/or araucanas, though I'd love a barred rock if I could find one up here.

Nice to meet you all! I'm looking forward to learning a lot here.

Also, if anyone is interested, here's the email we received from the zoning office:

Title 17C Land Use Standards
Chapter 17C.310 Animal Keeping
Section 17C.310.120 Keeping Household Pets
In all zones where dwelling units are allowed outright or by Type II or III permit applications, small domestic animals are allowed to be kept as household pets. Up to an aggregate of four animals per dwelling unit is permitted. (Five or more dogs or cats constitute a kennel, and any number of large or small domestic animals that exceeds the allowed limits constitutes a zoo.) Small birds (canary, parakeet, etc.); small amphibian/reptile (turtle, lizard, etc.); rodent (rat, hamster, gerbil, etc.); and tropical fish and animals that are always housed entirely within the dwelling unit are excluded from the numerical limitations.

Glad you get to keep some hens!

Thank you for the warm welcome!
We're still a ways off from actually getting the hens, we still need a coop. I just have to practice patience.

Good news! Great, actually. We got a coop yesterday, and this morning placed an order for some chicks! XD They should be hatching Oct.15th. We opted for a Cuckoo Maran, a Silver Laced Wyandotte, and an Easter Egger. I'm so excited!
