I’m here for someone else, but could you help identify their boy? I thought some kind of BR/RIR mix, but his feathers aren’t barred. They kind of look like they are an inverted double laced ( double penciled? ). Or could he be a pure-bred? Was born in the spring, so not a year old yet.

He's gorgeous! There are silver penciled rocks, maybe he's that.
Edit, nope, penciled rocks don't have the penciling.
Maybe some silver laced Barnevelders somewhere in his line?
Only Marans, Dominiques, rocks and Barnevelders have patterns on the boys so, they are there somewhere, maybe.

yeah, it’s really confusing me. he’s definitely a mix of something. they said they hatched him from an assortment of eggs they got from a hatchery. maybe they’ll have luck asking the hatchery?

Usually is a barred rock with something like a leghorn or Rhode Island red, like you said. It depends on the hatchery.
Yeah, I thought BR at first but then I got a closer look at the pattern on the feathers. Not barred at all, so must be the hatchery’s own kind of mix
