Hey all! My bird started acting strange today. She first breathed very fast, but as she did so sometimes i just assumed she was hot. I washed her coop and then showered her. For once she wasn't afraid of water and wasn't running, which worried me a lot. I then tested to see whether she would run from a broom, which she usually did. She just made a few noises but didn't run. I then gave her some salad, her favorite meal, but she didn't eat it. She pecked at it twice but then stared blankly off in the distance.
Then she laid down. :(
I observed her and her comb and wattles are a bright red, her eyes are half closed and her feet are slightly pink-ish.
What is going on? I'm really worried. Can i help her? :(

Update: She ran from the broom now, however didn't want to eat salad and ran a bit from water, however not much. Her poop was little, liquidy and white.

Could she be egg bound? I'm on my way to work but if you do a search on here you'll find tons of helpful info. Hope she feels better soon! Keep us posted on her progress.

Hi there, sorry your girl is not well. How old is she, has she began laying, as
if so she could be egg bound. You say she enjoyed it, when you bathed her.
This is why i am thinking she could be egg bound. Check her vent, and see
if she is contracting, and see if you can feel for an egg. I am sure you will
have more advice soon. Also try her with some plain yogurt, with fresh chopped
parsley added. Or scrambled egg. And is she drinking okay. If you do not think, she is egg bound, it could be the weather is making her this way. Have you any Nutri-drench
as it will not hurt her, giving some in her water, or a few drops direct. You will soon
have other help soon, on here. If she is still breathing fast, place her somewhere cool,
and if you have other hens, remove her from them, in case she has a bronchial infection.
Or something else that your other hens could catch. Just to be on the safe side. If you
have a dog crate, that would be great, and keep your eye on her. This is what i would do.
But i am sure others will reply soon. Good luck.:love

I'm not sure, she laid a huge egg yesterday.

Thanks! She is 3 years old, give or take, and is the only hen I have left. She laid a huge egg yesterday so I'm not sure if she is egg bound? It is extremely hot here. That could be it.

Update! I just went to check on her and she is still lying down but she moved her head around normally, her eyes were normal again and she ate salad! Must be the heat.

Hi again, so glad she is feeling better, although i live in UK our weather is hot hot,
not what we are use too. lol I have been placing ice cubes in their water to keep
them cool. So yes, the weather must have got to her bless. I would still keep your eye on her though. And how we worry over our girls. and boys too. lol
