My two chickens just started laying a week ago. While one is the the box the other is out roaming the yard and squawking up a storm until the first one is done and comes out. Then the other will go into the box and the one on the outside is wandering the yard squawking up a storm. This is the only time they really make any noise, or at least loud noise, and I sort of fear the neighbors might complain.

Is this normal behavor for a chicken, or will they out grow this when they get used to laying? Note; its not the chicken laying making the noise, the the bird on the outside wandering by herself making the ruckus.

I have two hens that do that, but them my rooster joins in... :) We call it cheering the egg layer...I also notice my rooster pays more attention to these two then any of the others, he even goes in there to check on them, get the nest ready for them...lol
