Chicken Is Pecking Herself and Is Drawing Blood!!! HELP

Our Wellie has been picking her legs and drawing blood. Why is she doing this?! How do you prevent infection from these open scabs?

Does she perhaps have mites?? As far as preventing infection, clean with soap & water, Neosporin ointment or similar should do the trick, Sue

Thoroughly check for mites or ticks and, as boskelli said, Neosporin ointment. Blue Kote can keep them from further picking at a wound.

If possible, could you share a picture of her legs? Check if her scales are raised, or if she has anything stuck under her scales that may be of discomfort.

For now, clean the area and put some neosporin (non-pain relieving) on the wounds and put a couple dabs of Blu-Kote on top. (Like the other posters had mentioned.)
