chicken killing cat

I have several ferel cats around my chickens and they don't bother them. My rooster goes after them. He goes after anything threatening his hens. Even us if we don't do it calmly.

I have an onery little calico who is a great hunter. She used to stalk the banty a little just for fun but has learned a healthy new respect for all of them. Those hens take no guff from her & she runs like a streak of lightening. It's pretty funny.

We do have ferals around here that do get fed. They are interested in watching the hens from a distance but have been smart enough to not approach. The dogs usually make sure of that too. Coons & stray cats usually give this yard a very wide berth. They aren't fond of the chickens taking over their beds when the girls come up on the deck to say hi & look in my sliding glass door but the dogs do share.

I'd say if you have a chicken killer on the loose better set out a trap or else get the shot gun. If he's done it once he'll do it again no matter if you are feeding him or not. It's a sorry situation but your flock needs protecting.

Best to you.

and so sorry to hear of your losses.

Are you sure that it was a cat? Cat's very rarely will take full grown birds and destruction on that scale seems really unlikely. What do the bodies look like, sorry but it may help id the pred.

yes a cat got all of my 3 little chicks we brought and we now only have three chooks out of 6 but the hens wernt even touched. the weird thinging is that all the guts and fethers where all over my yard
