I just found a dead baby opossum in our backyard with small patch of fur missing and doesn't look like our dogs attacked it. We have an aggressive hen who even attack our dogs and indoor cats for fun. We think our hen may have killed the baby opossum, however we do not see any battle scars on our hen. Is it possible for our hen to kill a baby opossum and if so can she contract rabies?

It is possible she killed it. Nothing really surprises me when it comes to chickens. The really good news is that if she did get bit, the only thing you have to worry about is a run of the mill infection. Rabies can only be passed from mammal to mammal. It doesn't effect birds, fish, and reptiles at all.

Also, opossums can't carry rabies. They're 'immune', so to speak, as their body temp is too low to harbor rabies. So, no need to ever worry about a rabid possum, it just can't happen!
