Hello team,

My father in law gave me two roosters. They have grown together andhad gotten alone well. But yesterday one of them injured the other one.

my biggest concern right now is that there was a laceration/cut below the left eye. I cleaned it and applied a product I bought for infection s st my local chickensupplies store.
My concern is that the rooster doesn’t open his eye very much. Is there anything else I can do? Will he start opening after the swelling goes down?

I would check inside his eye daily to make sure that it is intact and look for pus, and remove any gunk by cleaning the eye with saline or water. Plain Neosporin ointment can be applied into the eye twice a day. You can use Vetericyn spray on the comb wounds or leave them alone. He should heal within a few weeks, but the two roosters need to remain separated. If you have hens, you could rotate one into the flock for a few days, and then let him spend time with them. But since they have fought one might get killed. I have had 2-3 roosters in a large flock who knew who the boss was, and they got along fairly well with the occasional challenge. But I never had that much damage. Some of the rooster folks may chime in.
