Chicken laid an egg with skin and mucus!

Welcome!

Was this a one time thing or is it continuing to happen?

Did you take a picture of it or can you get a picture if it happens again?

I know that a freshly laid egg needs a short while to dry off but that does not sound like what you are describing.

I also checked back to a great BYC article on Common egg quality problems but could not see anything that sounds like what you experienced: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/common-egg-quality-problems

I am wondering if the hen that laid it might have shed some lining but I really have no idea sorry

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

My 7 month old hen just laid this egg. Her eggs have streaks of blood normally sometimes a little more but what is this mucus like stuff?
