Chicken languages... What do they mean?

After listening to them for over six years I can, owing to the `intergradiation' of signaling, differentiate one flock from another by vocalizations alone. The less stressed they are the more the indvidual `yap' predominiates. The greater the tension the more stereotypy predomininates. Pretty much the same the rest of us `vocalizing' vertebrates:

My BO who just started laying, has also started making purring noises when i talk to her as she sits in the coop. I dont know if she's going broody, but she likes to make a little nest in there and sit in it. When i ask her what shes doing in there (yes, i ask her questions) she responds with the sweetest little cooing noises...kind of like "b-rrrrrr? Brrrrrr?". The always end on an up-note...like she's asking a question.

i've learned how to mimic my roos deep treat/found food call... it really freaks him out when i do it...he shakes his head sideways and just stares at me as the girls come running.

I don't have a rooster, but I have a resident starling who can crow exactly like a rooster (only quieter!)The hens do have a lot of differant noises, it is funny to hear them.
