So I'm totally new here. I've been wanting chickens for a long time now.
We live in a community in Macomb, MI I know I'd have to get approval from the community first, but I was wanting to know about the laws for my area.
I know there's the right to farm act, but it's hard to understand everything in that and I wouldn't have a farm. I was thinking maybe 4-5 hens and they would be locked up at night and in an enclosed run as we don't have a fenced in yard.
I only have about 1/4 acre if that which my house sits on.
I just want to know where I need to go for info on if I can have chickens and what the laws are. I've looked around here a little bit, but there's so much info it's hard to weed through.
Thanks!

Call your town/village office and ask them if you are allowed to own chickens on your property. The zoning or codes officer should be able to pull up what the zoning is on your parcel and tell you if there is any restrictions.

If you live in an area with an HOA they would be the ones that would have final say though.

Thank you. It's not an HOA we're actually in a mobile home park (a nicer, newer one). So they would have the final say as well. But the township is the first to contact! Thanks

EDIT* I just emailed the town clerk. It's a start!
