I really hate when the news edits the story. The complaint was only because of noise was waking him up? I know I live in a very different neighborhood. But I have three Roosters and I cannot hear them from inside of my house. So I reall doubt and hope my neighbors don't. But Outside it's loud and clear. But so are the dogs, airplanes, and trains. I hope they can come to a nice agreement. I think they could work out something. Maybe sound proof the chicken coope and keep the crower inside till the neighbor decides is a good time to wake up in the AM.???

Is this guy a new neighbor? If there have been chickens on this property for "a couple of years" you'd think he would've heard them before now. I have almost 100 chickens (roosters, hens, pullets and chicks) and don't hear them with my windows closed and the air on. I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale and can't imagine this complainer not having his a/c on this time of year. Also, when I watched the video, I didn't see any roosters, so if he was hearing anything loud it had to be the egg song IMO. If there's an ordinance on the books that allows chickens then a judge doesn't have the right to "decide" if they're pets or not. That's a personal opinion to me. Some of us here see our birds as strictly pets, others see them as food for our families. It would be interesting to see a judge be able to decide for a large livestock producer if they had to consider all their cattle or hogs pets and not be able to slaughter them. I'm not saying I'm in favor or against, just that I don't think one person has the right to decide for someone else what they can or can't do with their own property as long as the owner is treating the animals in question humanely. There HAS to be more to this story, I'm thinking......

Yes there is! it is my family and we proved that he cannot hear them inside his house.

If you have a chance to look at the other court footage one of my neighbors is complaining that when they are nesting she can hear them scratching around (I can hear that when I am IN the coop!)

Anyway I am happy with the way FOX news portrayed it because most of the other news places totally didn't get it and were pretty rude, besides I got to see how my chickens are doing even while I am in New York! (I am here for 6 weeks)

While that was going on in court the board of health came to the house with a warrant and said that they are healthy and are not a health hazarded to the neighborhood.

ETA: we got rid of the roosters before he even moved in, so he has never heard crowing.

I live in the same county as you and we are about to get some girls of our own this fall. We will start with 4 . We are in the process of putting up privacy fence and prepping the back yard. I don't want to fight with the city of ft. lauderdale but My family's well being comes first and we cannot afford not to do this. Any advice?
I've been following this stiry for years now. Is there anything we floridians can do to help change the laws in broward county?

In some places it is against code, but they let people keep them anyway and in others it is permitted and they don't let them keep them!
