Hi, I hope someone can help. One of my 4-5 month old roosters suddenly couldn't walk. He manages to get out of the pen to eat and drink, but for a week or so his legs would end up sticking out of the back and his toes were all curled up and every thing was stiff. He is eating and drinking as long as I put it near him I moved them and stretched them, but it wasn't until I dropped the dogs bacon next to him and he gobbled it up that he started to come good. His feet are still curled up and canonly stand on one leg.
Now my other 3-4 month old rooster is looking wobbly like the first one did.
Anybody got any ideas on what this could be? I had a chick get sunstroke one day when the roof blew off on a hot day and it seems to be similar symptoms, but its freezing here right now. Feeding layer pellets and kitchen scraps. Are completely free range during the day.

I have the same problem she also is like shocking and very week try to eat but she is very thin

Hi it sounds like it could possibly be Mareks disease.. With Mareks it can be as Suttle as a lump or as vigorous as paralysis. Mareks pose is leg sticking out as you described. Other things can cause symptoms similar to Mareks like vitamin deficiency. To rule that out I would start a good multi poultry vitamin and see if symptoms persist.if they do its likely Mareks. Mareks virus is litterly everywhere and it is a highly contagious air borne disease. Was he vaccinated for Mareks? Mareks can live on the land for years. If it is Mareks it does not necessarily mean your other birds will become symptomatic but if Mareks it does mean those in your flock are now carriers and can spread the virus to other birds. If any new birds are brought in its recommended you vaccinate them and keep them isolated from the outside and adult birds for at the least 14 days for them to develop their antibodies and immunity to the virus. If this time is not given after vaccination they can still catch the virus before they had a chance to build immunity. The vaccine is not 100% but it is all we have besides breeding for resistance in the line of defense against Mareks for now. Do try the vitamins and see if he responds but if not it very well could be Mareks. I hope this is helpful and wish you the best.
