My son came in this morning from filling waterers and feeding the chickens. He came back in and said something was wrong with Skitzy. We are not sure of her age, she was given to us 16 weeks ago as part of a pair of 'full grown chickens'. She has never laid an egg for us but her partner has. She is a RIR and has always been very stand offish. We have only been able to hold her a couple of times - several weeks ago when we had a mite issue and had to dust all of the chickens. She will not get close to humans even for mealworms. I have 'caught' her a couple of times to dust and have taken her off the roost before when we were mite checking. My son said the other chickens were walking on her. I went outside and she was sitting at the 'door' that raises up under the coop to let all of the chickens out. There is some hay, sand and DE mixed in with the dirt there. The coop has hay and we put DE and Sevin in the hay. Her comb had some blood on both sides, looks like she was pecked on the head. I picked her up without any resistance from her and brought her inside. Gave her a 'bath' in the sink with cool to lukewarm water. Cleaned the comb as well as possible then put BluKote on both sides of her comb. When I first got her, her comb and wattles were pale. They reddened up when she was in the sink. She was very lethargic and let me massage her with the water to get it down to her skin. She had a black spot under one foot. I got that off and also sprayed with BluKote. she sounds like she is gurgling a little so I flipped her upside down and massaged her crop. A very thick yellow mucus came out. I had to clean some off her beak because it was so thick that it would not run off. She did perk up a little and made noise but it was a faint sound, nothing like the chickens normally make. She also started flapping her wings agains the faucet and when I tried to get a good hold on her, there was a crack sound so I think one of the bones in her wing snapped. She was not drinking water but I got a little in her. She was not happy with that. We put her in the tractor alone after we moved it to more green underneath. Also fresh water and food. She just flopped down and I had to position her to get her head/neck up. I put her close enough to the water that she did not have to get up to drink, just bend her neck a little. After an hour or so my son said there was water gone from the waterer but she is still laying like I put her. It has been hot here but there is a lot of shade all day where they range. There is also a creek right behind them and water is always available for them. None of the other 8 chickens (even the one we got at the same time as her) are showing any signs of illness. What should I do next? Do I need to syringe feed her water or electrolytes or anything like that? This is my first "sick" chicken so I am a little freaked out and not knowing exactly what to do. ANY and all advice will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.
oh...have not seen a bm from her yet to describe. her vent area does the 'open close' movement when stimulated but nothing coming out.
