Chicken Life Newbie

Hello there! I am new to the "chicken life" and so excited to begin this journey!! I am a Mom to two girls, Emma 6 and Zoe 3. I am excited to be able to share the responsibilities of raising our flock with the girls. I am open to any and ALL information, tips, tricks, "must haves" etc. etc., that anyone is willing to share with me. I am in the market for a coop that can accommodate up to 10 hens and I am also look for the hens themselves!!

I have an eight-year-old daughter who loves the chickens. It's such a great project to do with your kids -- teaches them (and us) so much and is so rewarding!

Howdy and welcome! As some will post, the commercial pre-fab coops are ok starters, but don't expect them to last very long. If you have anyone in your area that can do a custom built one for you, it's worth the extra money and a much better value.

You'll be addicted in no time - chickens are awesome

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.
