My Barred Rock seems to be limping pretty badly. We believe it has to do with a small dog attack, with left quite a few feathers. We have her in a cage in the coop separated by the flock. She doesn't seem to be lethargic, she is eating and drinking. She is even still laying eggs! There seems to be no swelling of the leg, visible bone, or wounds. However when I touch the leg she immediately pulls it away out of pain. When walking, she takes a few steps, and plops down with her wing draped over the affected leg.

Here are my two main questions:

- Is this a leg or hip injury?
- Would splinting be the best answer? How would I do this for a chicken?
- How would you treat a hip problem?
- How can I help ease her pain? And should I keep her in the cage? In the coop, or should I put her in a more quiet place?

I would put her back in the coop in a smaller pen or cage to keep her from moving too much, and to keep others from picking on her. Keeping her away from the flock can cause big problems trying to put her back.

I personally would wait and see how she does. Without feeling a break I would assume it's muscles and it just needs time to heal.
