I can see why you would remember your order from 1950, getting stuck with 22 roosters would stick in anyone's mind. I would have been crying "fowl!" myself.

Back in the day, hatcheries always seemed to have a substantial surplus of cockerels. You could count on receiving a few hens in the discounted batches but for the most part they appeared to be made up of the little guys that otherwise would have gone into the dumpster.
