Recently one of my pet chicken has died (the dominant hen) , which was very sad , now I have two chickens , and one of the chickens seems to have strange feather loss , I don't know if it is due to pecking (maby due to a change in the pecking order ?) or the stress from cold weather and being locked inside , but she is not bald , she had root like spurs where the feathers are missing (is this common in moulting or could it mean that just the end of her feathers have been plucked off ?) any one have any advice on what I can do and what it could be ? Thanks .

Welcome to BYC!

Not sure what you mean by "root like spurs"...might be pin feathers(new feathers growing in)?
She might be molting

More info needed...age of birds and pics would help.
Climate, coop size, feeding details, etc.

Ah thanks , I have googled pin feathers , and it looks like what my chicken has, that was useful , so I'm assuming she's just molted . Thanks again x

Good job! You just needed the right term to search for.
She could be in the process of molting, it can take awhile.
Higher protein feed can help the process along.
