Chicken losing feathers?

I noticed about 10 feathers scattered around the run, under the perch where one of my chickens was sitting. Then I saw her shake, and a feather came out. There seems to be a series of feathers that look like they're getting ready to come out. I don't know if she is molting, as she is under 9 months old. Seems to be acting fine otherwise, and only she is doing this. She also did just finish being broody for the first time.

She's probably molting. It's not unheard of for younger birds to molt. She may do a very soft, or even partial molt this year. If you see pin feathers coming in anywhere, then molt it is.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully she doesn't molt as Winter is coming. Might have to get her a sweater.

She will be fine especially in California.

She will be fine! Really! Sweaters usually cause more problems than they fix. Even if she had bald spots they are usually able to keep themselves warm enough.
