My head hen is lossing feathers on her bum.

She is acting normal and everything else seems fine. It’s a cold winter here in CT and I have a small coop. Could I have a pecker? Her bum looks fine except for a red bloody area. I have another girl who is better by pecked but the one lossing the feather on her bum is the leader. What can I do to help the redness?

What’s wrong?

First thought looking at that pattern...do you have a rooster? That is a normal feather loss pattern from breeding.

If not, it may be molting, especially if it is your top girl, as it is not likely she would be feather pecked.

It doesn't look like illness to me such as vent gleet as the vent looks clean.

My guesses off the top of my head.

Hi,
I would check for lice and mites on your flock too, just to eliminate them from your enquiries. They can cause feather loss and irritation like your girl has.
😊

I will check tommorow, they are fast asleep. No one don’t have a too, the others have already molted ands she’s a late bloomer so we t could possible be that.
