My pet chicken Furry Legs was in her outdoor area and was attached by a dog five days ago. The majority of her top and bottom beak were torn off, but she has a small top and bottom piece left on her right side. For the past few days she has been on antibiotics and pain relief. We have been feeding her baby food and water with a syringe, but I don't think it is enough.

She shows interest in pecking her normal foods, but can't figure out how to pick them up yet. Either that or it hurts too badly.

She has lost quite a bit of weight, and I don't know how to feed her more. She loves to eat corn, spinach, banana, and worms usually, but she can't.

In addition, I am worried because although her tongue was not injured miraculously, the tip of it is turning dark brown. It protrudes from her mouth since most of her beak is gone. Does anyone know if that is normal? Could it be drying out or damaged? I don't think she could even be force-fed without her tongue.

We love Furry so much, and hope someone has some advice. She is an only chicken. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

That's awful, the only thing I can think of is a prosthetic beak, in part which can be glued on. I have some dried milk casein which is a natural plastic. I could send you some perhaps you could try and fashion a beak if sorts?

Worth a try???

Thank you so much for all your replies. Furry is doing better and making due and greatly appreciated the guidance.
