(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Me, my brother & parents first raised a baby chick from an incubator a LONG time ago when I was a teenager, it was the only 1 that hatched out of 25 eggs, it was pure black, I was in love w/it, it was so tame it'd follow me around everywhere (which is dangerous since its easily stepped on), my dad ended up stepping on it :( & I was crushed, I think he even cried. That was at least 15+ yrs ago. We then ended up w/1 RIR Rooster, really pretty, & some type of brown/tan hen, she had babies & we gave them away eventually, then we had 1 lil cockeral, named Taco lol...he was SO pretty, he was a mix of probably a wynadotte, RIR, & who knows what else, he had every color possible I swear.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 12 (6 seperated from the others atm)

(3) What breeds do you have? We have 4 RIR hens (only 1 of which is layin bout 3 a week). 2 of them are moulting & 1 is gettin older, she's the boss. (We have had the REDS for about a year & a half. We have 1 awesome White leghorn hen :) who is my baby whitey lol, got her last yr, so she should be almost 2, she lays everyday, sometimes a dbl yolker! (2 of them in the last 3 wks). Then we have 1 Dominique who's pretty much just there to look pretty, she isn't that tame though which stinks b/c she's so soft & I don't think she lays either, we did have 2 whites & 2 dominiques but 1 of each got taken by a fox :( really hurt b/c we had done surgery on the white 1 twice for really bad bumblefoot & she was the only chicken I've ever had that didn't poop on me!!! And 1 of the reds keeps on having reoccuring leg mites, I have put vaseline/diaper goop on them everyday then every other day, they're lookin better finally, but her names Scaleyfoot of course now.

We just got 6 golden laced wyandottes a while ag, they were 2 1/2 wks old at the time, now they're 13 wks. & growing, 1 cockeral named Pinky (typical i had a pink foot tag on "her" in the beginning" b/c we were supposed to have 6 pullets), 5 pulletst (purple foot - dominant one, whitey, greeny (the tamest & lightest colored), brownfoot, & the baby runt redfoot.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Yahoo Search

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I love horses (used to have 2), I Love all animals really, although I do go hunting mainly just turkeys & deer - have been doing that since I was like 6 w/my dad; also fishing mainly bass, bream, catfish...etc. Right now its so hot here (usually in the 100's) I mainly sleep, eat, & play computer games, along w/making sure my chicks/chickens are cool. We have water misters in both pens for our chicks/chickens right now & fans so they got it made.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am 30, I have a brother who just turned 28, we both still live w/my parents in this crappy economy; I have been looking for a job for a long time even though I have a bachelors degree in Psychology & Criminal Justice. My parents are 60 something LOL, & are retired. My dad loves gardening, etc. It was his idea to get chickens so we wouldn't have to buy eggs anymore & fresh eggs are always better.
As for our other pets...we have a chocolate lab Dozer, who is about to turn 12 :( like a brother to me!, & then we have fish --- thats about it for now.

Hi and :welcome

That's awesome that you get so many double yolkers. Our hens haven't laid one for years.
And I know what you mean about the soft chicken. I have a hen named Eggie whose feathers are like silk.... but she gives you the stink eye and a wound in the hand when you try to pet her. lol. :p

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D

Yea, lil blackie is really shy, she might even have PTSD now, b/c our other little smaller blackie was one of the ones taken by the fox, & our chickens always seemed to hang out in colored groups, like they were racist LOL, seriously the 4 RIR, 2 dominques, & the 2 leghorns...now my 2 tamest (1 leghorns, 1 biggest RIR) hang out together, blackie kinda wanders by herself which isn't very safe :( & the other 3 reds hang out together, we're about to add our 5 pullets, & one cockeral 14 wk old wynadottes to them, gonna be interesting to see how that turns out!

Thanks everyone for the welcome :)
