Chicken makes a weird hiccup kind of noise??

Oh, and how long does gapeworm take before it ends up killing the chicken? I don't know, it just doesn't seem like she's gasping for air, and she eats fine, so it's just weird.

Gapeworm is one of the most resiliant worms, so it does need quite a heavy dose to treat. That said, as long as the hen is otherwise healthy, worming wont harm her at all. Lots of us do it routinely for our birds.

I'm in the UK and use a product called Flubenvet. It costs around £10 for a largish tub, and I bought mine online. I don't think its sold under that name in the US but I know there's an equivalent. You can mix it into their food, or treat individual birds by dipping a grape into the powder once a day. For regular worming you treat for one week, for gape worm treat for two. I know that wont all be relevant, but just as an example of how easy it is

I would then treat again after a few weeks in case of any reinfection from eggs.

If it's no better after that, you can rule out gapeworm. it could just be something she does, or she could have a polyp or something else causing her to cough. If she isn't showing any other signs of gapeworm it could just be that you've caught it early. It's a slow killer, and if you treat now it should fix any problems there

I believe you can take a Q-Tip and put it kinda down the chickens throat and puyy it out and you will see a bit of red with like a Y. If is not gape worm the q-tip will be clean. I would check for broncitis or crd. Good luck!

I read that you can sometimes get a gape worm out on a Q-tip, but not always. Sometimes the worms are down further than the Q-tip can reach. And if you do get one, the bird is probably in great trouble. Like you have no time at all to get it treated.

I would say, if you think it's gapeworm, treat right now. Don't wait. Time is limited.

I think Ivomec Injectable (ivermectin) is the preferred drug. It is given orally. I am not sure of the dose, but it's not huge. Like it's a matter of drops, not teaspoons.

Hi, my hen has actually been making this noise for a while now. Usually it's not every day- maybe 4 or 5 times out of the week though. Most of the time this lasts for a really long time, practically the whole day. I have a link to a video of her doing this. She'll do it, won't for a minute or so, then will start back up again. I've been reading about gapeworm, but I'm not really sure it that's what it is.

Skip to around 20 seconds, and once it's around 40 she's pretty much done for that segment. But it can get really loud to the point where I'm in my room upstairs and I can hear her outside. Please Help!!

One of my hens just started doing this today and I Googled chicken with hiccup noises. I wonder what it is!? My hens are kept outside in a large coop and run. She is about 7 months old so I am stymied as to what this is. If you find out, please let me know. Thanks and good luck! (If I find out any more, I will let you know as well). Take care.

I am having the same problem with two of my chickens. One is about 3.5 mos old and the other is 4 mos old. They were out in the rain yesterday, not sure if that has anything to do with it, but would like to know what is going on asap.
