Hi guys!
So I have 5 pullets and they are currently eating a mix of 17% and 20% grower crumble feed and they are about 18 weeks old.
One of my two cinnamon queens sometimes makes a slight whooshing air/slurping sound while she eats? I tried to record it, but its so subtle it doesn't pick up. it sounds like she is occasionally sucking in air while shes eating.
She has no physical differences from the other chickens, doesn't seem to be sick or anything, has no problem eating. Literally nothing different. Shes been doing it for about 2-3 weeks(as far as i know it could be longer)
I don't believe she has a congested nose or anything, it is just odd.
Anyone ever had this and is there anything I should do? I assume i'm overreacting and its just a quirk of hers. Just want to make sure!

Chickens make lots of noises for lots of purposes. Maybe she is just "slurping" and enjoying her meal. My husband makes noises when he eats too. He denies it, but he does. Sounds like something she just does as she eats. I wouldn't give it a second thought! :p

Check to see if she mightn't be accumulating a wad of food that's partly blocking her air intake before she--obviously successfully--clears it by pausing on occasion to gulp it all down. I have a pullet who's greedy and eats too fast sometimes and who's done just this to an alarming degree. You'll hear a snoring sound, or wheeze, or just hard breathing, and see her opening her mouth wide and sort of twisting the front of her neck, trying to get the food down. A couple of weeks ago she seemed distressed enough while eating from a bowl of krums outside that I wound up putting her on my knee to feel her throat and sure enough, she had a wad of feed a third the size of a large cigar in there. I eventually had to massage it up and out. It was occasionally blocking her airway enough for her comb to turn purplish as she tried to get it down and I was afraid she'd choke. As soon as she shook her head and sent the wad flying, she wanted back down on the ground and started trying to eat the now very slimy wad of krums all over again. Ugh! Some chickens never learn. Anyway, if it's an occasional choking issue in your own pullet causing the noise, you'll be able to feel it, and if you don't feel anything...likely an individual quirk or just the results of inhaling one's feed WAY too fast...

Oh goodness! I will definitely check her for that. I haven't seen any signs yet(the head twisting and such) but I will absolutely check. Thank you so much! :highfive:
