Chicken math is real

So if my chickens free range all day in a little under an acre of wooded fenced in backyard and my actual coop where they sleep is 8 x 10 how many chickens is too many chickens?
They have 2 covered runs as well and both runs and the coop have food and water. The yard has 2 waters and lots of bugs!!

I would say a safe number is 20.

A lot depends on your location, climate, predators and the size/security of the runs.

If like me, your coop is solely for them to sleep and lay eggs, then I would say you can work out with at least one foot of roost per chicken and one nest for every four hens. As a rough guide.

I have lots of nesting boxes and they all want the same one. But I have lots.
I kinda ran into trouble last summer bc you see, there is nothing cuter or more fun than letting your broody hatch her own babies from your own flock and I kinda got obsessed
And now- I have too many roosters. Of course. Bc it’s either a boy or a girl. 50/50
I thought of giving my boys away but I’m attached. Since I loved them from before they even hatched .
So I need to get them some more girls. For sure.

Even adding more girls is no guarantee the boys won't fight it out.
Chicken math must include subtraction.
