Oh! I forgot to mention, I posted this thread in hopes that others might share stories of chicken time in action!
We call it "Chicken TV". Folks who don't have chickens don't understand. They're like: "Yeah, but they're just walking around pecking the ground and not really doing anything interesting." Us: "Oh look, Natasha just stood up to Coraline! Look at Mahogany! Isn't she pretty? Oh, the young girls got up on the big girl roost!" "Look at Carl....he's going to crow, I know he is."
Yeah, people who are chicken-less just don't get it.

Oh yes, when I am tending to any of the living things in my life, the passage of time is drastically altered. Whether I am cleaning out the goat/chicken coop or tending to any of my dozens of plants, 15 minutes of "chicken time" turns up to be an hour of everyone else's time.

I love that people here get it! Once you get to know their personalities, Chicken TV is superb entertainment!

Both dogs have an incredible prey drive, so I won’t be able to let them into the yard off leash once our chicks move to the coop. They will chase the flock from the outside of the run and stress them.
Training is doable once you've established a personal relationship. Even with strong prey drive, they can be taught WHAT to hunt. :thumbsup

All 3 of my dogs were rescued from the shelter and have eliminated many cats though out their 8-10 years together.. my 2 cats were feral when adopted last year with hopes of becoming barn cats, they won over my hubby's heart and never made it out there, though another feral cat has moved in to take care of rats.. All 5 live in the house, sometimes even sleeping in bed with us.. and hunt/kill everything in the back yard EXCEPT chickens! They're still very much like spy verses spy and the dogs bully the cats a little but the cats get in their share of antics.. slapping them unexpectedly when they walk past. etc. The cats had a gopher circled in the back the yard, my highest prey driven dog hunts holes all day, comes in and handles it quickly instead of letting them play with it.. she recently learned they're tasty too and eats all but the entrails! :sick

Small chicks are just too tempting and are never trusted with them for long periods of time until reaching a certain size and generally slower movement level.

Ah, "Chicken TIME".. I've experienced it daily, every time I open BYC! But especially when it's overcast here on the coast.. it feels like morning forever and the days and MONTHS just fly by.. We've already past the solstice and now they're getting shorter too! But wait there's more.. Yes, chicken time includes other living things because chickens are a gateway animal, lol! After chickens came goats, pigs, rabbits, ducks, turkeys, cats, guinea pigs, and more.. :wee

Now I know why I'm always late! 💩

So this is what happens when your animals spend time together and yes that second picture is a cat cuddling with a chick they slept together for 2mths cats and dogs are all rescues
