Chicken Math. Or "The story of how I didn't want chickens and got hooked"

That Black Langshan is gorgeous! I can't wait to see how she feathers out.

Yeah, I think she's going to look pretty cool.

Just to let you know your "blue langshan" is actually considered a "splash langshan" because blue doesn't breed true!

Works for me. I'm going by what the dude at the feed store told us, but I'm OK with her being a splash too. :)

(--Edit) She's my current favorite as far as looks go.

Today's coop update. Added nesting boxes. They're Ikea Bitrade shelving cubes (20 bucks each) and some scrap facing material to keep the nest materials in the boxes. I seeded them with some ceramic eggs and tomorrow I'll probably keep the girls cooped up for a bit so they can figure them out.

Going to rework the roosting bars tomorrow as well, they were only temporary in that location anyway.

but for now it's covering shelter and predator protection which were the most critical.

Nice set-up. One thing I wanted to point out---if those chicks sleep up against the wire---a predator can reach right in and grab hold on them, kill them or mess them up bad. Have Fun!

Yeah. I thought of that too. I'm moving the roosting bars and the ladder away from the wire to try and prevent that.
