I added 3 more to the family! The new MS Market Bulletin came today and these were 4 miles from my house. I’ve been wanting a rooster so I got a EE rooster and 2 of his little Dominique pullet friends.

I had a recent case of the chicken maths too. I had a lone hatch out of a batch of shipped eggs. I really don’t need more chickens but I wanted the breed and pedigree

. Well this lone chick needed some some friends to grow up with. Two or 3 chicks would have done but I was afraid 2 chicks would get too cold on the 8 hour car ride back home. Plus they had brown leghorns and blue copper marans. Both of which are breeds I wanted so I got 3 of each justified with the fact that 6 chicks would stay much warmer than two.

Now it’s the middle of winter and I have a box full of 7 chicks in my basement that I will have to make space for.

Yes, but as we all know, chicks don’t count toward your total number of chickens… right?

I inadvertently revived this 2 year old thread while trying to get @Chookwagn ‘s attention. I guess I’ll give an update on these 3 chickens. The 2 Doms are still laying and doing good. The bigger one is very broody but her little sister couldn’t care less. I sold the rooster to a young family nearly a year ago now. They were starting up a farm that would rival @Isadora. He’s living the good life. Other than those, I’ve had lots of chickens come and go over the last 2.5 years. My main focus now are my RIRs and bantam Cochins.
