When I posted this question, I had not run into a lot of those things that can happen. Those unplanned things that subtract for you. Hurricane Sally destroyed my run and coop. I lost over half of the flock to predators, also displaced, in the days after. I have eagerly planned a new coop, run, and flock members This spring. I have learned a lot about what I like and, more importantly, what I don’t like. Local swaps and social media groups are a great place for those that just don’t do it for me. The Best laid plans are foiled by a cuddly chick of breed you never heard of before. Ahem.... Delawares.. I still have my broody hen who is currently sitting again. I am excited for my mixed flock that this year will include ducks. I am not really nervous future addition and subtraction. I much prefer when I get to choose to subtract. Chicken math is still a real thing.
