Hi there. We are down to 9 chickens (Isa Brown & Sex Link), 4 guineas, and 5 ducks (Muscovy). We have had a run of bad chicken math so unfortunately our chicken math is stuck in subtraction. No chickens taken last night or this morning so far! SHEW!
One of my chickens lays double yokers practically everyday which is always a joy (though I am sure not for her butt because that egg is HUGE, yikes!). It's always quite satisfying to collect eggs and tell the girls thank you for the eggs (take nothing for granted because it could be gone tomorrow).
Let's see, we also have a greyhound who is nice to the chickens and a 9 year old dachshund who has now assumed the duty of helping me round up the chickens, etc. in the evening and put them to bed. If I do take her out in the evening by a certain time to accomplish her duty, she will not let me rest until the task is complete.
Finally, we just shipped our son off to college, woohoooo!
I have a question, there is an old thread from 2008 about coffee and chickens. I was not sure whether to post there or not since it's almost 9 years old...can I? At any rate, I have one chicken who loves eating the coffee grounds as I open the coffee pods to dump them. It has not affected her in the least. Her name is Meanie. She isn't really that mean but when she wants scratches she will come up and peck your leg. On her name day she pecked my leg particularly hard. After I yelled "OW!" really loud she has not done it like that since.
Look forward to reading and posting and learning!
