Chicken math

So while I wouldn’t say my husband is unsupportive of my chicken habit (he built the coop, run and amazing laying box)...he definitely puts a stop to chicken math getting out of control.
Last April we were going to get 3 pullets...which turned into 5 because the kids (yes I’m blaming my kids, lol) wanted one per family member. All 5 were barred rocks. After having them for a few weeks, I decided I NEEDED silkies. We got 3. Then I was on kijiji (like craigslist) and found someone selling Icelandic’s.....so plus 2 more. I then found someone selling pure Ameraucanas locally....so plus 2 more. Our coop wasn’t even built at this point and now I had 3 brooders going. At this point I got myself under control and stopped. The coop was built, everyone eventually moved in and was integrated.
One silkie, one Ameraucana and one Icelandic ended up being boys.....so minus 3 . I really loved the silkie and Ameraucana roo’s.
We went through the rest of the summer, fall and winter with just our 9 hens. The Icelandic was getting totally attacked by the BR’s...so I decided to sell the three head hens.....so minus 3. They went to live on a lovely horse farm, and my Icelandic is SO much happier.
Down to 6. I got the major itch to add more, because 6 is not enough! We just added 2 EE’s, a light Brahma, a faverolle, a BO and a BA. I ordered all pullets so hopefully they end up being all pullets. So we are up to 12 and that’s it for that coop.
There are so so many other breeds I want....mainly bantams. My husband is refusing to build another coop. I also want BLRW, SS, GLW, Cochins, lavender orp’s....too many to list!
Guess I will have to settle for what we have and just keep working on him with the bantam coop. I’d love some more silkies. And D’Uccles..........
Anyone else struggle with chicken math after running out of room??? We have a few acres, so we do have room for more coops, but half the party is not so into chickens.....:barnie

Girl...the struggle is REAL! I don't think I can list all my plus and minuses. Suffice to say, I have 10 laying hens and a rooster in the coop. I've got 8 -10 week old EE's getting ready to be integrated when Mother Nature decides to keep the nighttime temps about 40 degrees here. Then there is the 8 Olive Eggers I hatched from my own flock, I have 5 pullets and 3 cockerels. They will go in the other coop and run with my other rooster. Then yesterday I got 12 Cream Legbar hatching eggs and just set them in the incubator. While at the farm to pick up the eggs, the owner hands me the cutest little bantam hen...then her little man came strutting over asking me why I was holding his girl...well, I feel in love right then and there with them! My poor husband is standing beside me and I look over at him and he is just shaking his head and says "I guess that coop I'm building in the fall will be for these?"...YES!!! Even he couldn't deny the cuteness factor...he just kept laughing at the little guy strutting around!

Doesn't your husband have a hobby, something he loves doing? If so, just support him in his hobby and maybe he'll return the favor ;)
