Chicken math

I was explaining to a couple of co-workers that this last weekend I sold a couple of pullets from my flock that I did not care for. I said that I was thining the flock so that I could add some new chicks this spring. One of the co-workers asked "so you are getting 2 new chicks?". I laughed and said "no no no.".

These are chickens and so you have to use chicken math... 1 + 1 = 24! He looked at me like I was crazy. After he thought about it a moment he said the he wished someone would apply chicken math to his 401K

My DH built my chicken run and coop in December. He told me I could get 8 chicks. Then he went with me while I picked up 15 chicks.

= 15

I guess we both do Chicken math well.

I teach regular math everyday to high school students.
I like Chicken Math soooooo much better.

So instead of my 8 chickens, i actually should have 96! Better go call Ideal.

Well, I wanted 12 buckeye hens, so I hatched 18. Now since the incubator was running, I added 10 of my welsummers, an unspecified number of my Black Australopes, and some cuckoo marans. Then I went and picked up another 24 buckeye eggs+ bought 6 RIR, just because they where available at the time. I gathered a few more of my own the next day and threw them in the bator as well. Last week I added about another dozen of my own eggs, and yesterday set 21 more. This should give me a 100 or so chicks by mid Feb. Unless of course I decide to set a few more of my own.

Does my math sound about right?

Ah, chicken math! That explains why each time I set out to buy 2 chickens, I end up bringing home 4 chickens! I KNEW there was a logical explanation

Over the last few weeks, I have sold 4 chicks and 6 cockerels...so yesterday I set 12 eggs, collected another 12 more, and am picking up an additional ~12 today.

THe DH looked at me, but knew better to question my chicken calculations.
